The 53-year-old – who was a Eastern European national living in Tipperary – was part of a group who were fishing near Fanore when she was swept into the sea at around 9:00 yesterday morning.

Coastguard teams recovered the woman from the water and she was flown to University Hospital Galway, where later died.

A post mortem will take place today.

Mattie Shannon of Doolin Coastguard says people need to be wary of rough seas.
