Doolin Coast Guard Station Named After Catríona Lucas

Doolin Coast Guard station has been renamed in memory of the first member of the volunteer service to lose their life in the line of duty.

The Doolin base is now known as The Caitríona Lucas Coast Guard Station.

The 41-year-old mother-of-two died tragically on September 12th 2016 while taking part in a search for a man reported missing in Kilkee.

Yesterday, Caitríona’s family gathered at the Doolin station along with members of the Irish Coast Guard and personnel from other volunteer and statutory emergency services including the Search and Rescue Dog Association with whom Caitríona also volunteered.
Senior members of An Garda and Clare County Fire and Rescue service also attended the event.

Caitríona’s daughter Emma and son Ben unveiled a special plaque which has been mounted on the front wall of the station where Caitríona and her husband Bernard volunteered for many years.

A small memorial garden is also being constructed on the grounds of the station in Caitríona’s memory.
