Clare’s Minister of State insists there’s been no rift in Fianna Fáil over the presidential candidate selection process.
Sources within the party had stated the vote between Micheál Martin’s preferred choice of Jim Gavin and Ireland South MEP Billy Kelleher was essentially a “referendum” on the Taoiseach’s leadership.

Six time All-Ireland winning football manager, former Irish Defence Forces Commandant and current Irish Aviation Authority CEO Gavin ultimately prevailed by 41 votes to 29 – a much closer margin of victory than many expected.
However, Tulla Fianna Fáil Deputy Timmy Dooley says the party is firmly united.
