Clare’s Fianna Fáil TD is confident that consumers will be protected against unscrupulous waste collectors that would hike up prices.
It follows a deal between Fianna Fáil and the Government last night to avoid a defeat on bin charges.
Fianna Fáil demanded that a regulator be set up for the waste industry, but the party has now agreed to accept the Government’s counter motion, which instead asks the Competition Authority to look into the matter.
