Dooley Claims He Wasn’t Pressured Into Backing Gavin Or Kelleher

Clare’s Fianna Fáil Minister of State claims he “never felt pressure” to back either Jim Gavin or Billy Kelleher as the party’s presidential election candidate.

A meeting of the Fianna Fáil Parliamentary Party is taking place on Wednesday evening to discuss the fallout of Jim Gavin’s withdrawal from the race.

Cork TD James O’Connor has issued a statement suggesting the former Dublin football manager became the party’s nominee due to “extensive pressure” put on TDs and senators by the Taoiseach and Jack Chambers.

Tulla-based Deputy Timmy Dooley says this wasn’t his experience.
