Dooley Appointed Minister Of State At Departments Of Agriculture And Environment

Clare will have a ministerial position for the first time in five years.

It comes as Deputy Timmy Dooley has been appointed Minister of State with special responsibility for Fisheries at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and Minister with special responsibility for the Marine at the Department of Environment, Climate and Communications.

It’s the highest office the Tulla based TD will hold since the beginning of his political career when elected to the Seanad in 2002.

In his new roles, Deputy Dooley will work under Ministers Martin Heydon (FG) and party colleague Minister Darragh O’Brien.

Although a Minister of State position does not guarantee a vote or seat at the Cabinet table, the role is often seen as a de-facto Department Head when assigned a special responsibility by the Taoiseach.

Former Fine Gael TD Pat Breen was the last Clare deputy to hold such a position when he served as s Minister of State at the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation, at the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection, at the Department of the Taoiseach and at the Department of Justice and Equality with special responsibility for Trade, Employment, Business, EU Digital Single Market and Data Protection until 2020.
