Mobile phone operator Three has been accused by a Clare TD of gouging its customers by increasing the cost of monthly plans.

Three has texted a number of its customers to inform them of a five euro per month increase in their bills from the end of May.

Clare Fianna Fáil TD Timmy Dooley believes is an attempt to claw back revenue lost through the end of EU roaming charges.

In a statement to Clare FM, Three has defended the move, insisting it is the first time that it has increased charges in a number of years, and say they come as a result of the increased cost of doing business.

But Deputy Dooley says there is no justification for the move:

Statement from Three:

This is the first time that Three has revised the cost of its core portfolio in a number of years. These changes are a direct result of the increase in costs of doing business. Notwithstanding the revisions, we still offer some of the most competitive plans on the market that are affordable and offer real value to our customers.
