A West Clare Tourism Consultant claims the county’s success on the domestic market comes at the detriment of attracting international visitors.
The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show that domestic tourists stayed longer in Clare on average than in all but one other county in 2021.
Data shows staycationers remained in this county for an average of 3.9 nights last year, with only Donegal averaging longer at five nights.
Kilkee Fianna Fáil Councillor and Co-founder of Loop Head Tourism, Cillian Murphy says the county’s surplus in self-catering accommodation is stifling the expansion of hotels and B&B’s.
