Having left Ireland in 1862 bound for the goldfields of Australia and New Zealand, Hannan while venturing through the bush with Ennis man Thomas Flannagan and Cork’s Dan Shea set off the world renowned gold rush of 1893 in an area 550kms East of Perth.

The find resulted in the establishment of a settlement called Hannan’s which became the foundation for the development of the twin cities of Kalgoorlie and Boulder.
