Disgust is being expressed in Clare at a new report which has found that Ireland has the highest rate of hate crime against those of African backgrounds in the EU.
The report from the Irish Council of Civil Liberties has found that despite the country’s performance in this regard, there are no laws to address it.
The authors of the report have said the absence of any laws to tackle hate crime has led to a ‘policy vacuum’ in relation to crimes motivated by prejudice in Ireland.
