An Ennis West independent Councillor has said Clare County Council should have lobbied the government for more money, instead of adopting it’s budget for the year ahead.
Kilnamona representative James Breen’s call to delay the passing of the document was not followed during last night’s meeting which saw Councillors sign off on the local authority’s spending plan for the year ahead.
It contains no change in the commercial rates charge, after county manager Tom Coughlan said it wasn’t possible to reduce this without impacting on services.
However, Councillor James Breen thinks this wouldn’t be the case if the government was told of the need for extra funding.
