Tony O'Brien has told a Committee on the future of Healthcare that despite six years of austerity – there has been significant developments in several areas – including the treatment of stroke and heart attacks.

However Mr O'Brien pointed to a number of challenges including the pressure on emergency departments, an ageing population and attracting & retaining staff within the sector.

He says that while 80% of services are of a very high standard – this is overshadowed by the 20% that are not delivered as they should be.
