Diesel car sales in Clare have fallen by over 10% in the past year.
New data from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry shows just 390 diesel cars have been sold in the county from January to June of this year which is a drop of almost 12% from 442 in the same period last year.
Petrol remains the most popular engine type in Clare with 449 units sold so far this year while hybrid engines continue to grow in popularity with 333 units sold since the beginning of the year.
Electric sales in Clare have soared since last year, accounting for 17% of overall sales so far this year compared to 9% last year.
SIMI Director General Brian Cooke attributes the rise of electric car sales nationwide to the availability of grant support.
