Proposals to have Dev’s Dodge displayed in the foyer of Clare County Council’s HQ in Ennis are set to be ruled out.
The 1974 Dodge Plymouth which was presented to the local authority by the De Valera family in 1988, has recently been restored to its former glory by Councillor PJ Ryan after being damaged during the 2009 floods.
The council was then requested that the former state car be placed in the foyer of Aras Contae an Chlair so it could be viewed by the public until a new library headquarters in the town is developed
However the executive of the local authority has effectively ruled this out due to several issues, including the car’s weight on the floor of the council foyer and the need to dismantle the building’s doors in order to bring it in.
Roche Ireland sponsored the original garage behind the De Valera Library and the local authority says this has to be considered as well
