While radon is a naturally-occuring gas, it is also a leading cause of lung cancer.
Nationally, it's estimated up to 110,000 thousand homes could be in areas where radon gas levels are above the country's threshold limit while recently the EPA reported Clare as having some of the highest radon rates in all of Ireland.
Works can be carried out to ease radon levels in buildings, and Minister Denis Naughten has told the Seanad that such works may need to be supported by grant funding.
