Details of Water Charges Revealed

Home owners across Clare will are to face an average cost of 240 euro per year for water.

The government has announced details of the new charges which will now go to the regulator for consideration. 

It folllows several weeks of negotitations between the government parties. 

The unit cost is to be fixed until the end of 2016 and the average cost per year per household will be 240 euro. 

Overall homeowners will be given an allocation of 30,000 litres free per year with additional 38,000 litres per child.

It will be capped for people with higher usage needs – such as medical – this is to be agreed with the department of health. 

Minister Phil Hogan says there will be changes in the budget to assist vulnerable groups.

As previously reported the standing charge has been dropped – however a set fee may apply to holiday homes. 

It's also been confirmed that those on private supplies – as in those that do not use the public supply or waste networks will not be charged. 

A free first Fix Scheme will be introduced at a cost of 51 million euro to the end of 2016.

Minister Hogan's confirmed if the fees are not paid for a household the water pressure on that property will be reduced. 

The measures must now go the regulator for approval before being implemented.
