Clare’s local authorities have issued the following press release with regards to tonight’s homecoming event in Ennis. Included are traffic restrictions, parking arrangements etc.
Clare Local Authorities will host a joint homecoming event for the Clare Senior and Under 21 hurlers and their management teams tonight in recognition of their achievements during 2013. The event will take place at Tim Smythe Park (formerly known as The Fair Green) in Ennis with entertainment commencing at 6 p.m. The players and members of the management teams will be introduced to the crowd.
Planned activities include big screen entertainment and musical entertainment from Socks in the Frying Pan, Damian Gormley, The Wingers and others.
Public parking arrangements / traffic restrictions The following road closures will be in place from 4.30pm to 12.00pm midnight on Sunday 29th September: – Steele’s Terrace/Newbridge Road from College Road to Kelly’s Korner Roundabout – New Road from its Junction with Tulla Road and Newbridge Road – – Dr. Daly Road from its junction with New Road to its junction with Lifford Road – Lifford Rd – one lane open in direction from Kelly’s Korner to Tulla Road with restricted access from Tulla Road to St Josephs Hospital. –
Parking for people with disabilities and their carers (with a valid disabled persons pass) will be available at the Courthouse car park and the car park of St. Joseph’s hospital – Access to the Council’s car park at New Road, the Courthouse car park and the car park at St. Joseph’s Hospital will NOT be available to the general public
Members of the public travelling by car to the homecoming can avail of parking at various other locations throughout the town, including Abbey St. Car Park; Bindon St. Car Park; Cornmarket Car Park; Cloughleigh Car Park, Friars Walk Car Park; Friary Car Park; Glór Car Park; Lower Market St. Car Park; Market Place Car Park, Parnell St. Car Park, Waterpark House and Woodquay Car Park. Meanwhile, the Q Park Multi-Storey Carpark in the market will be closed. Available parking until midnight: Ennis Mart, Dunnes Stores Multi-Storey. Other available 24-hr parking: Cois na hAbhna, Lidl, Gael Scoil (incl. new car park and school yard), Educate Together (Gort Road), Gort Road Business Park, Coláiste Muire, Holy Family N.S., and old Ennis National School.
The event will be an alcohol-free event. While there will be designated non food trading areas near the Tim Smyth Park / The Fairgreen, no food/ drink outlets or traders will be allowed in the area. Local businesses in the area will remain open that evening to facilitate those attending the event who wish to purchase refreshments etc.
Crowd control/ services: As part of the event the organisers will be installing a stage, with big screen, toilet facilities, additional lighting, first aid and crowd control barriers in Tim Smyth Park / The Fairgreen area where the running track is located. On the night, there will be music and other entertainment which will be supported by a sound system. Members of the public attending the event are requested to comply with instructions or guidance provided by stewards and members of An Garda Síochána.
