Derry won’t challenge Ennis for Fleadh 2017

Derry is looking for the return of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, but won't compete against Ennis for the rights to stage the event.

Fleadh 2016 has already been awarded to Clare's County Town, while there are also strong hopes locally that the town will retain the event in the following year as well.

Reports in the North say the new Derry City and Strabane District Council has given its backing to a bid to bring the Fleadh to Derry in 2017.

However, a local COmhaltas official has told Councillors that this bid will be withdrawn, and put forward for 2018, in the event that Ennis seeks a second successive Fleadh.

Ennis stood aside in its bid to allow Derry host the Fleadh in 2013.
