The Department of Justice has identified overcrowding and fire safety issues at a Clare IPAS centre.
An inspection was carried out of the Clare Lakelands Hotel on April 28th of this year.
The accommodation caters for a maximum capacity of 80 residents, with 51 present on the day of inspection.
A number of non-conformance issues were identified, however, none were deemed in breach of the centre’s contract with the state.
Inspectors recorded an incident of overcrowding, with one family found to be living in a room too small to fulfil their needs.
Issues with electrical equipment were also noted as rice cookers, kettles and fans were found in rooms throughout the centre, while extension leads with phone chargers left plugged in and unattended were highlighted as a fire safety risks.
Mould was also found on some bathroom ceilings within the centre, with inspectors recommending management treat the incidents due to the areas affected being too far out of reach for residents.
The centre was given 14 days to rectify all the highlighted issues.
