An official call's being made for greater flood protection for Shannon Airport.

The Department of Transport has published a draft document on climate change which calls for a range of measures to protect the country's infrastructure.

Among the proposals are increased coastal flood defences for the midwestern airport, which experienced severe flooding in 2014.

Independent Cllr Gerry Flynn, a member of the Shannon municipal district, says the news is welcome, but that more needs to be done to address residential flooding also.

The draft consultation document is due to go on display in Clare in the coming weeks.
