Department Of Defence Sold Lahinch Pump House To Clare County Council For €1

The Department of Defence has sold off over €713,000 of assets in Clare in the past four years, including a pump house for just one euro.

They’re listed among a portfolio of almost €15.5 million sales since 2013.

Figures revealed in the Dáil show that the sale of surplus military-owned properties in Ireland since 2013 has boosted the coffers of the Department of Defence by €15,413,075.

Of that number, €713,001 came from transactions in Clare.

This includes a reserve defence force training camp in Lahinch to the tune of €560,000 as well as a pump house there for only one euro.

In this case, the Department of Defence entered a 99 year agreement with Clare County Council in 1977 to allow them erect a pump house and lay pipes on lands at the Lahinch Training Camp.

Prior to the camp’s disposal at public auction in July 2014, it was agreed to transfer the small pump house site to the council for a nominal fee of a euro.

In a statement to Clare FM, the Department said this is standard practice where a local authority is providing a service from their lands.
