Decision on possible Eircom examiner to be discussed

A decision will be taken today on the appointment of an examiner to Eircom.

The group, which has changed hands 6 times since being privatised in 1999, is insolvent with debts of around 4 billion euro.

If Mr Justice Peter Kelly decided to appoint an examiner to Eircom, it will spark the biggest corporate restructuring in the history of the state.

A survival plan for the group includes a provision for one thousand redundancies over the next 5 years – that’s nearly a fifth of the workforce.
