Dangerous Driving Conditions and Power Outages In Clare Following Storm Jake

Gardaí are adivsing motorists to drive with extreme caution on Clare roads this morning as storm Jake sweeps through the county.

Winds of up to 75 kilometres per hour have battered parts of the county overnight with gusts of up to 130 kilometres per hour in some places.

Gardaí say sudden hail storms are disorientating drivers, particularly on exposed areas of the N18 and M18 motorway as well as on coastal roads.

1,631 homes and businesses are without power this morning on account of the adverse weather conditions in Ennis, Kilkee, Ennistymon and Cratloe, while a further 211 are affected in Gort.

ESB crews have been dispatched to deal with faults on the system and are working to restore power to most areas by lunchtime.

A status yellow warning for wind is in place for Clare until 10am and forecaster with Met Eireann Siobhan Ryan, says Storm Jake has brought with it wintry conditions.
