It’s hoped a major milestone has been reached in the fight to reopen an Accident and Emergency Department in Ennis.
It’s after a Sinn Féin motion calling for a second ED to be established in the MidWest passed through the Dáil without challenge from Health Minister Stephen Donnelly.
Just 20 TDs were in attendance for the debate, but it’s unclear if the Government will commit to any such proposal unless HIQA’s impending review of Emergency capacity in the region makes the same recommendation next Summer.
Shannon Sinn Féin Councillor and General Election candidate Donna McGettigan believes it’s still a huge step in the right direction.
