Workers earning under 70,000 euro will have their Universal Social Charge cut in the next Budget.

That's been guaranteed by the Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, in the Dáil this lunchtime.

The commitment came as the Dáil continues to debate yesterday's Spring Statement.

The Taoiseach says the government is fully committed to abolishing U-S-C over time – with cuts that will continue this October.

Meanwhile, as talks on undoing cuts to public pay will begin with trade unions next month, a Clare Garda representative says that's their number one priority.

Garda Paul Crowley, the GRA Central Executive Committee Member for Clare, says members of the force here are under severe financial pressure.
