Cuts To Respite Care ‘Destroying Lives And Souls’ Of Carers

A Shannon Councillor insists slashing respite care hours is ‘destroying the lives and souls of full-time carers’.

Figures released by the HSE show in the first quarter of this year, there were 1,714 less sessions of respite care provided in the country than the same period last year.

That’s despite 1 in 20 people currently being listed as a carer, with that figure to rise as high as 1 in 5 by the year 2030.
