West Clare Farmer Claims Planning Application For Wind Farm Development Flouts County Development Plan

A West Clare organic farmer claims a planning application for a wind farm development near Kilrush is in contravention of the Clare County Development Plan.

Mark Wilson-Pierce has formally objected to the proposed development submitted by Ballykett Green Energy Limited on a number of environmental and consultation-related grounds as well as due to the close proximity of the site to other wind farms in the area.

There are already 13 wind turbines in the Moanmore area where the site is situated, while the Clare County Development Plan 2017-2023 states that in that region, a new wind farm near an existing may be approved “only at a very great distance with minimal presence”.

The application, which was received by Clare County Council on June 26th, outlines plans to build four wind turbines each of 150 metres in height, a new site entrance onto the L6132, several peripheral buildings and seeks “a ten year permission and a 35-year operational life”.

Mark Wilson-Pierce, who lives close to the site of the proposed development, says the wind farm would be an “eye sore” for the community.
