Issues with insurance have forced the organisers of the annual Spancil Hill Fair to cancel a planned donkey derby event.
The race has been one of the annual highlights of a family day that has been established in recent years, and runs on the day before the fair itself.
The family event goes ahead this Sunday, but last night a decision was taken to cancel the donkey derby element due to issues with insurance.
Pat Hannon of the organising committee says it’s a decision they reached with heavy hearts, and he feels they had no other choice.
The Spancil Hill Fair itself takes place on Monday.
