Queues at Ennis’ walk-in vaccination centre appear to be shorter than elsewhere in the country after the facility opened for the first time this morning.

The walk-in clinic for 50 to 59 year-olds begun operating at the former Outpatients Department at Ennis General Hospital this Thursday.

From there, Clare FM’s Josh Prenderville reports.

One man’s views on how badly people who are queueing in Ennis this lunchtime want to receive their booster jab.

The walk-in clinic, which is specifically for 50-to 59 year olds today, has opened in county Clare for the first time.

While people in queues outside the Outpatients Department were reporting having waited half an hour or more this morning, it appears waiting times here are shorter than in other areas nationwide.

Kilrush man Pat Kelly says he’ll wait as long as he has to.

Those who received AstraZeneca or Janssen jabs the first time around are particular eager to get a third jab of an mRNA vaccine.

Terry Hynes, who made the journey from Lisdoonvarna, says he’s eager to have additional protection before Christmas.

Some had a shorter journey – and say they’re preparing for a quieter Christmas.

Mike Hassett from Elm Park in the county town says despite getting the booster, he’ll be keeping socialising to a minimum over the festive period.

Those with reservations about a booster are being encouraged to come forward.

Paul Crowe from Ballyea says he doesn’t mean waiting in a queue – and that the booster programme will be a community effort.

The walk-in-clinic will run until 4 o’clock this Thursday afternoon for 50 to 59 year olds, with a further clinic for this age cohort opening on Saturday from 9am to 2pm.
