The Mayor of Clare has hit out at commentary about asylum seekers in political circles, saying they are merely decent people trying to restart their lives.
A number of high profile figures have come under fire for their comments, including Fine Gael by-election candidate Verona Murphy and Independent TD Noel Grealish.
Meelick Fianna Fáil Councillor Cathal Crowe says it’s not helpful for anyone to be focusing on the negatives and that those seeking asylum are, in general, trying to better their lives.
