Revenue has published statistics on the Local Property Tax for the first quarter of 2023, detailing LPT collection of €314 million nationally so far this year.

The liability for Clare properties is 10.42 million euro for last year, while the equivalent figure for 2022 was 10.37 million.

The majority of the money collected goes towards funding local services provided by Clare County Council, with a portion going to an equalisation fund used to prop up other areas across the country where revenue from the tax is lower.

2022 was the first year that newly liable properties came within the charge to LPT on an annual basis, with owners of properties built last year required to submit a return and set up a payment arrangement for this year.

47,282 property owners in Clare have so far filed returns for the valuation period between 2022 and 2025, and of these, 165 were newly liable for the tax in 2023.

However, these figures exclude properties owned by the Local Authorities and Approved Housing Bodies, as their returns are still being analysed.

Revenue has issued 150,000 letters to property owners across the country who haven’t yet paid, or set up a payment method.

Those who fail to do so may be subject to a range of collection and enforcement actions including mandatory deductions from their salary or pension.
