The programme is supported by Laura’s parents Bernie and Larry, with registration having been open for the past month.

Boys and girls in secondary school and women aged under 25 can receive the vaccine for free under the initiative.

The most common cancer caused by the HPV virus is cervical cancer, though it can also impact boys and men.

One of the first nationwide clinics under the Laura Brennan HPV catch-up programme will be held at the Ennis Primary Care Centre next Wednesday, the 18th of January.

It’ll run between 9.30am and 1pm, though it’s understood more clinics are being planned for the region in the coming months.

Those eligible are being asked to register their interest on www.hpv.ie for their free appointment.
