Irish Water is urging Clare residents to protect local river catchments and drinking water sources, after pesticides were detected in two of the countys’ drinking water supplies.

MCPA, which is found in many commonly used herbicide products, was detected in the Ennis and Shannon-Sixmilebridge drinking water supplies in 2019 and 2020, as part of Irish Water’s public water supply monitoring programme.

As a result, Irish Water is asking the farming community, greens keepers, grounds keepers, and domestic users, to think twice about any use of pesticides.
