Inis Cealtra And Burren Uplands In Running For UNESCO Status

The Chair of Mountshannon Community Council is heralding the news Inis Cealtra is one of two Clare sites that may be considered for UNESCO’s World Heritage list as hugely positive news for the area.

Inis Cealtra and the Burren Uplands are among six sites nationally being considered by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage for inclusion on UNESCO’s World Heritage Tentative List for Ireland.

The list is updated every 10 years and an independent advisory group will now consider the applications of each of the six to determine whether they may be included in the next list of these sites in Ireland.
