Govt Shuts Down Calls For Windfarm On Clare/Galway Border To Be Retained

The Government has shut down calls for a windfarm on the Clare / Galway border to be retained.

Ireland was fined €5m in the European Court of Justice in 2019 for failing to carry out an environmental assessment at the site of the Derrybrien Windfarm in the Slieve Aughty Mountains, and was forced to pay a further €15,000 per day afterwards.

The 70 turbine windfarm ceased operations in March, with the ESB confirming the site would be decommissioned after An Bord Pleanala ruled not to grant retrospective planning permission to fix issues at the site.
