Government Taking Away “Best Part” Of Person’s Life By Pushing Up Pension Age

The Shannon-based President of Active Retirement Ireland is expressing concern that the government is taking away the best part of a person’s life by pushing up the pension age.

Kay Murphy’s comments come in the wake of opposition from SIPTU towards the government’s plans to increase the age at which a person can draw their state pension from 66 to 67 next year.

The union has launched its STOP 67 campaign, saying the issue is particularly hard on people who are contractually obliged in their jobs to retire at 65 and then draw job seekers allowance until they can access their pension.
