Fresh Calls For Department To U-Turn On Non-EU Cargo Checks In Shannon

A South East Clare Councillor is making fresh calls for the Department of Agriculture to u-turn on its decision to check non-EU products in Dublin instead of Shannon Airport.

The move was made back in September, with Department officials deciding inspections should take place in the first point of entry into the EU, rather than in the Midwest.

Businesses are understood to be fearful of a ‘yo-yo’ effect, meaning goods are arriving in Dublin, being transported to Shannon and then back up to the capital again for agricultural inspections.
