French Cultural Honour For Edna O’Brien

Tuamgraney author Edna O’Brien is to be honoured with France highest cultural honour.

In an online ceremony this coming Sunday, ‘The Country Girls’ writer will be named as Commander of the French “Ordre des Arts et Lettres” by the country’s Minister of Culture.

The distinction recognises O’Brien as one of the greatest writers of the 20th Century.

During Sunday’s ceremony, tributes will be paid to O’Brien, who is now aged 90, by the likes of Minister for Culture Catherine Martin, writer Colum McCann and actor Gabriel Byrne.
