More Focus Needed On Clare’s Rural Towns – Murphy

It’s claimed making Clare’s rural towns more attractive places for young people to base themselves will have a positive ripple effect on remote hinterlands.

Figures published by the CSO have revealed that hundreds of people are leaving the most rural parts of the county each year, with this trend suggesting the smallest communities could be wiped out within a generation.

Between 2011 and 2016, the population in rural Clare fell by some 3,238 – the equivalent of three families each week.
