An Ennis Councillor is calling for an urgent development plan for the economic and social regeneration of Chapel Lane in the town centre.

It comes as Parnell Street, along with 29 other lanes and bow-ways in the town are due to be upgraded under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund.

In 2019, half of the 19 premises along Chapel Lane were vacant – the highest vacancy rate in the town, with the area being discussed by Councillors Johnny Flynn, Ann Norton and Clare Colleran Molloy at this week’s municipal district meeting.

Councillor Flynn believes the area does not need funding to be surveyed and that these vacant ground floor units would be perfect for artists and craftspeople.
