A deal has been struck by the newly elected councillors in Clare on who will serve as the Mayor of Clare for the year ahead.

Meelick Fianna Fáil Councillor Cathal Crowe will replace Michael Begley as Cathaoirleach for the next 12 months of the council – a position that comes with an annual allowance of €20,000.

It follows a meeting last evening between two representatives each from Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and the Independent Technical Alliance, which includes the independents, Sinn Féin and the Green Party.
