Council Delegation To Visit New Direct Provision Centre In Ennis

A delegation of councillors from Ennis will visit the town’s new direct provision centre this week.

The Clare Lodge is to open its doors to asylum seekers at the end of this month to the first of 64 who will be housed in the new centre.

A briefing was held yesterday, which saw the contractors as well as representatives from the Department of Justice answer questions from Ennis councillors about how the centre will operate.

Last night, the Department of Justice formally announced its plans to open the new centre at the Clare Lodge.

In a statement, Minister of State David Stanton expressed confidence that the people of Ennis would be “warm and welcoming,” saying this would help promote integration between its residents and the local community.
