Clare Native Former Priest Says Husband Suffered Most Pain Of False Allegations Against Him

Fr Bernárd Lynch

A Clare native former priest says it’s his husband who has suffered the most at the hand of false allegations which have been made against him.

Bernárd Lynch, who grew up in St. Michael’s Villas in Ennis, moved to New York where he worked with men dying with AIDS in the 80’s and was a staunch supporter of the LGBT community.

However, in the late 80’s criminal charges were filed against him for the alleged sexual abuse of a teenage boy – something which his accuser later admitted he was forced to testify to by the FBI.

Bernárd says his husband Billy Desmond has experienced the most pain in seeing the one he loves hurt.

A new radio documentary ‘Falsely Accussed’, produced by Clare FM’s Programme Director Padraic Flaherty, airs this morning from 11am.
