Clare Mountaineer Adds Voice To Concerns About Mount Everest Deaths

A Clare mountaineer who successfully reached the top of Mount Everest has added his voice to concerns about the number of people who’ve died on its slopes this year.

John Burke from Spanish Point reached the summit of the world’s highest mountain two years ago.

Earlier this month, a friend of his – Seamus Lawless from Wicklow – fell to his death after reaching the top of Everest.

His death followed that of another Irish man – Galway native Kevin Hynes – and came amid concerns over long queues and congestion on the mountain.

Mr Burke insists that greater controls are needed to curb the number of fatalities on Mount Everest.
