Clare Immigrant Support Network Describe Continued Use Of Knockalisheen Tents As ‘Inhumane’

The Clare Immigrant Support Network is describing the ongoing use of tented accommodation at Knockalisheen Direct Provision Centre as ‘inhumane & unsafe’.

Figures made available in Dáil Eireann by Minister for Integration, Roderic O’Gorman show that 102 Asylum seekers are currently living at the Meelick facility.

The use of tented shelter at the South-East Clare site had been stood down in December, before being recommissioned by the Government in January due to a surge in refugee arrivals over the Christmas period.
Broadford native & Clare Immigrant Support Centre Co-ordinator, Emer O’Connor says the provision is extremely degrading for the families concerned.
