The manager of services at Clare Haven has described an admission that 22 calls to Gardai relating to domestic violence went unanswered in this county between 2019 and 2020 as ‘chilling’.

Garda Commissioner Drew Harris outlined the figure at a meeting of Clare’s Joint Policing Committee earlier this week.

14 of the calls related to requiring assistance from Gardai, with all calls having since been followed up b the Divisional Protective Engagement Unit since the issue came to light.

Speaking with Clare FM’s Josh Prenderville, Dr Siobhan O’ Connor, manager of services at Clare Haven, says the figure for this county is concerning.
