Claims ‘Fancy Ideology’ Needs To Be Stopped When It Comes To Moneypoint Coal Burning

A West Clare Councillor claims ‘sentimentality’ and ‘fancy ideology’ need to be put to one side when it comes to coal burning at Moneypoint.

It’s after Tánaiste Leo Varadkar said the facility could continue burning coal for ‘many years’ amid concerns about energy supplies following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The West Clare plant is due to end the practice by 2025, and the ESB has now put forward plans to An Bord Pleanala for its multi billion euro Green Atlantic programme that is to transform the site into a green energy hub.
