Calls On Government To Provide Explanation On Clare Sites’ Omission From Unesco List

A Clare Independent TD believes the government owe the people of Clare an explanation as to why two cultural sites in the county weren’t put forward to be considered for UNESCO status.

In 2021, the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage received six applications to be included in the new World Heritage Tenative List for Ireland – including Inis Cealtra and the Cultural Landscape of the Burren Uplands.

It was this week revealed that the two Clare locations would lose out on the chance to potentially become UNESCO World Heritage sites by not being added to the list.
