Appeal Lodged Against New Corbally LIDL Store

In October, Clare County Council approved a planning application from German supermarket giant LIDL for this development, next to the Westbury Shopping Centre.

The development would include a discount foodstore, incorporating an off-licence area, a coffee shop, car and cycle parking.

The application was given the go ahead despite reservations from some in the area, including Mayor of Clare Cathal Crowe who lives in the Westbury estate, who expressed concern about the ability of the road to deal with the additional traffic.

Now though, an appeal against the planning application has been lodged with An Bord Pleanála by Brickiln Limited, a Kerry registered firm, which operates a number of Super Valu stores, including Garvey’s SuperValu in Corbally.

The same company had previously lodged a submission against the original application to Clare County Council citing, among other concerns, the capability of the existing junction at the entrance to Westbury Shopping Centre to cope.

A decision on that appeal is due by March 11th next.
