Confidence has been expressed by Moneypoint management that the station will be “central” to Ireland’s dercabonisation.
Earlier this year, the plant ceased burning coal as part of it’s transition to becoming a green renewable energy hub which will have the potential to power up to 1.6 million homes.

The Kilrush facility was Ireland’s largest electricity generating station when it opened in 1985 and has this week celebrated its 40th birthday.
Manager Stevie O’Mahony believes Moneypoint will play the same role in the years to come.
